Patina

A thin layer of oxidation that occurs on certain metals such as bronze, zinc or copper over time due to atmospheric influences. The patina results in a change of colour, which is considered aesthetically pleasing. For example, copper and bronze forms a green patina known as verdigris, whilst zinc will weather to a dark, grey chalky colour.
