Mortise and Tenon Joint

A simple, strong joint that is used to join pieces of wood, normally when the pieces are at an approximate angle of 90 degrees. The end of the first member is called the tenon, which is usually narrowed with respect to the rest of the piece. The tenon is placed into a hole in the second member (known as the mortise). The joint may be pinned, glued, or wedged to lock it in place.
