Laminated Glass
A type of safety glass that is made from two or more layers of glass bonded together with an inner layer of transparent plastic to which the glass adheres if broken. Laminated glass is normally used when there is a possibility of human impact or where the glass could fall if shattered. The high strength of the interlayer prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces, which produces a characteristic "spider web" cracking pattern.
In addition, the interlayer gives the glass a greater sound insulation rating, and also blocks 99% of transmitted UV light.
