Header

1. The top horizontal wooden support of a rough opening. The same type of beam in steel, rather than wood, would be known as a lintel.

2. The support for joist-ends in a floor or roof opening.

3. The support for joist-ends on the foundation walls sill.

4. The end face of a brick. When a header course is used in the construction of a wall, the bricks are laid across the wall to bond together its two sides.
