Gravity Wall

A type of wall that relies on its own mass and geometry to resist the pressure of the forces acting upon them, and so does not require reinforcement from geo-textile layers or landscape fabric. Modular gravity walls rely on the weight of the block itself to withhold the backfill and other loads from the surrounding area.

For short, landscaping walls, gravity walls are often made from segmental concrete units (masonry units) or dry-stacked (mortarless) stone. Dry-laid gravity walls are somewhat flexible and do not require a rigid footing below frost.

Gravity walls often have a slight setback (batter), to improve wall stability by leaning back into the retained soil.
