Compressor

A mechanical device that pressurises a gas so that it turns into a liquid, thereby allowing heat to be added or removed. A compressor is the main component of conventional air conditioners and heat pumps. In an air conditioning system, the compressor normally sits outside and has a large fan to remove heat.
